Mango pico de gallo is a quick and delicious recipe you NEED to try this summer! Prepare your ingredients and mix them up, it's that easy! Make this for any occasion as a great last-minute snack option or use it as a topping on your tacos.

This mango pico de gallo recipe only takes a few minutes to whip up. While it can be served any time of year, I think it's perfect for sitting outside in the summer! Fresh, fruity, and a bit spicy if you add a diced jalapeño, it is the perfect snack.

Whenever I make this, I buy an extra mango to make some mango habanero salsa too! That way once we eat this up there's another salsa option available for the next round of company (or just for us!) Want to change it up? Try pineapple pico de gallo, too!

What is the difference between salsa and pico de gallo?

Pico de gallo is a type of salsa! It is a chunky and fresh variation that is not as liquidy as other kinds of salsa.

What does pico de gallo mean in Spanish?

It translates to "beak of the rooster." While it is not known exactly why it is called this, it is believed it may be because it was originally eaten pinched between the thumb and index finger making the shape of a rooster's beak.

    What you need

    • Mango - The star of the show! Fresh, juicy, and tropical. You're going to love it!
    • Roma tomatoes - Delicious and pairs beautifully with every other ingredient used.
    • Red bell pepper - I chose a red bell pepper for the color and flavor, but feel free to choose any color you'd like!
    • Red onion - I chose a red onion for its color and flavor but you can swap for a yellow onion if that's what you have on hand.
    • Fresh chopped cilantro - An essential flavor in countless salsa recipes.
    • Garlic - Grated garlic mixes in beautifully and deliciously.
    • Salt - I used fine-ground Himalayan pink salt but you can use fine-ground sea salt instead if you prefer.
    • Limes - Juicing 2 limes is a flavor MUST!
    • Jalapeño - Optional if you want to add a bit of spice to the mix!
Is pico de gallo supposed to be hot or cold?

Room temperature or slightly chilled are the best ways to serve any pico de gallo!

    Why you'll love this recipe!

    • Quick - No cooking or roasting in the oven required for this recipe! Prepare your ingredients and mix them up. It's that easy! It is a great last-minute recipe for any event.
    • Delicious - The mango makes this recipe so fresh and fruity! It is a unique spin on pico de gallo that is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.
    • Multipurpose - Serve this alongside chips as a dip or alongside tacos as a topping! You can use this as the focal point of a Mexican-inspired charcuterie board to incorporate a unique and exciting element!
Are there different types of pico de gallo?

Yes! There are many different types including this mango pico de gallo and my pineapple pico de gallo recipe. There are so many different ways to make pico de gallo.

    Notes

    • To get the most juice possible out of your limes, roll them with the palm of your hand across a table or countertop. Cut in half across the middle and juice!
    • You can substitute in a yellow onion if that's what you have on hand! I like to use a purple onion for the flavor and color.
    • You can use any color or bell pepper you’d like, I used red!
