Lavender honey lemonade is the perfect naturally sweetened summer beverage. It's way too hot out for tea, so this is the best way to enjoy the many benefits of lavender and honey during this season.

Sugar free lemonade is a favorite around here in the summertime. The days are hot down here in the south from sun up to sundown. Making some naturally sweetened lemonade using local honey keeps us cool while enjoying something other than water! It's simple to make and even the kids can help out!

Making honey sweetened lemonade with lavender is a great way to enjoy the benefits of the honey and the lavender on a hot day. I'm a tea drinker. Lavender tea sweetened with honey is my go-to when I am stressed out. We also love to enjoy strawberry basil lemonade which I also sweeten with honey instead of sugar. In the summertime, I am much less inclined to have a hot cup of tea! I also enjoy a lovely adrenal cocktail midday when I crave a bit of sweetness.

What you need to make homemade honey-sweetened lavender lemonade

    • Lemons - Okay kind of obvious, right? You'll be juicing 6-8 fresh lemons for this recipe. The flavor is incredible and it's not hard to do nor is it time-consuming. This is much healthier than using storebought powders.
    • Dried lavender - Culinary-grade dried lavender will give your lemonade a unique herbal touch! Steep for 15-20 minutes for best results.
    • Honey - Local raw unfiltered honey will help to sweeten your lemonade without the use of sugar! It's much more natural and the added benefits are incredible.
    • Water - You'll use 6 cups of water, divided. This means 3 cups for the first part with your lavender and 3 cups for the second part with your honey and lemon juice!
How much lavender do you put in lemonade?

You can use anywhere from 1-5 tablespoon of lavender in your honey sweetened lavender lemonade! It depends on how strong you want the lavender flavor to come through.

    How to source local honey

Typically, you can buy local honey at a farmer's market in your area. If there isn't any at your closest one, you can use tools such as localharvest to find a nearby apiary. If that doesn't help you, ask your family and friends if they buy honey locally or go search on social media. Chances are, you will be able to find locally sourced raw unfiltered honey much closer to you than you think! Many beekeepers have Facebook pages for their business and can even be reached via phone, messenger, or email. It’s truly never been easier to find local raw unfiltered honey!

Where can I buy dried lavender?

Of course, the best way is to grow and dry your own lavender at home. But that's not always possible. If you can find a local source that's your next best option! Still, some places don't have lavender fields nearby. You can choose to source dried lavender from amazon or mountain rose herbs for your herbal preparations!

How to steep dried lavender using cheesecloth

    1. Cut a section on cheesecloth.
    2. Measure out your dried lavender. Put each tablespoon directly in the center of the cheesecloth.

    3. Carefully gather the edges of the cheesecloth around your pile of lavender.

    gathering the cloth

    4. Tie a knot to enclose the dried lavender in the sachet. Make sure it's tight enough to keep everything inside!

    tying the cloth

Tip: You can also secure it with a rubber band, hair tie, or tie some twine around it if you can't get a knot in place!

Can you use lavender essential oil in lemonade?

There is a lot of conflicting information out there and many people willing to fight till the death on this topic. I strongly recommend against using essential oils internally unless under the direct supervision of a trusted and qualified naturally minded healthcare provider. Ingesting essential oils can be incredibly dangerous and can cause serious issues. Essential oils are very potent and powerful and therefore should be used responsibly.

    Lavender lemonade benefits

While the lovely scent on its own is enough to help calm you down, there are many benefits to this cold beverage! It is full of vitamin C, folate, and has anxiety and insomnia-reducing properties, and so much more.

The best way to juice lemons

Fresh squeezed lemon juice is much better to use than storebought powders for your homemade lemonade! To get the most juice out of each lemon simply use your palm to gently roll each lemon before cutting and juicing!

This looks simple and delicious. It also helps that I grow my own lavender so I have it available pretty much all the time.
