    • Onion and Chive Cream Cheese

Plain cream cheese mixes with heavy cream into a spread that's smooth and super-rich. Then, it's flavored with freshly chopped chives, garlic powder, and minced onion for a deep savory flavor. Perfect for schmearing on bagels, toast, flatbread or to be used as a dip for crackers or chopped vegetables.

If you like this scallion cream cheese, you will love this Raw Milk Kefir and this Burrata Caprese.

Why You’ll Love This Chive Onion Cream Cheese Spread

    • Rich and creamy: Cream cheese mixed with heavy cream makes for an even more decadent and creamy cheese spread for your bagels.
    • Better than store-bought: Once you taste this homemade version of onion and chive cream cheese, you may never go back to store-bought cream cheese ever again.
    • Versatile: You can easily add as much or a little of the seasonings as you like, spice it up, sweeten it up, and make it your own.

    Ingredients

Ingredients to make chive and onion cream cheese on the table before preparing.
    • Cream cheese: When time permits, this homemade cream cheese is always a great starting place to make a flavored cream cheese. In a pinch, you can use store-bought if you are looking to save some time.
    • Heavy cream: A touch of heavy cream helps thin out the cream cheese so it spreads easily while also adding more creaminess.
    • Chives: Freshly chopped chives add a touch of color and a mild onion flavor to the cream cheese. If you can’t find fresh chives, freshly chopped green onions make a good chive substitute.
    • Seasonings: Use a combination of garlic powder and dried minced onion to add flavor.

See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.

    • Make and serve with your favorite bagels, smoked salmon, and this Burrata Caprese for a weekend brunch.
    • Garnish with this Rosemary Salt for a hint of rosemary flavor.

    Expert Tips

    • Room temperature cream cheese: When the cream cheese is at room temperature it is easier to blend, so take it out of the fridge before you begin to prepare it.
    • Store leftovers: Leftovers of this cream cheese spread recipe keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.
    • For easy blending: If you don’t have a hand or stand mixer, use a food processor in order to get a smooth texture.
    • For a spicier cream cheese: Stir in some finely chopped Fermented Jalapeños for some heat.
