Make and use this 2 ingredient homemade wood butter on your cutting boards, utensils, and charcuterie boards! Food safe and easy to prepare, this wood butter is essential for keeping up with the care of your kitchen items.

When your wooden cutting boards and utensils are starting to look dry, don't toss them! Whether they're handed down, bought from a local artisan, or thrifted...I'm sure you treasure your wooden kitchen items. They're beautiful and functional! Use this homemade wood butter to condition them and extend their lifespan.

Keeping up with the care of your wooden utensils and cutting boards as opposed to restoring them with an extra step, though it doesn't take that much effort, does save you time in the long run and keeps that one extra task off the list. It's kind of like caring for your cast iron or your copper cookware, it's easier to keep up with it than it is to restore it once it's rusty!

    What is wood butter?

Wood butter is a homemade natural product that conditions and seals wooden kitchen items. It is a combination of beeswax and food-grade oil such as coconut oil, mineral oil, tallow, lard, etc. (Never use canola oil or olive oil in this recipe!)

What do you use it on?

    • Cutting boards - Wooden cutting boards are used in the kitchen on a daily basis. Keeping up with their care is essential to ensuring they have a long lifespan!
    • Wooden utensils - Conditioning wooden utensils with wood butter keeps them in working order longer!
    • Charcuterie boards - Between events, it's important to reseal charcuterie boards so they're ready to go the next time you break them out.
    • Wooden handles on utensils - Is the wooden handle on your potato masher getting a little worn out? Using this wood conditioner on it will help to keep it maintained so it'll last a lifetime!

How do you use wood butter?

You simply rub it on the item in need (wooden spoon, cutting board, charcuterie board, etc) and allow it to dry overnight before use.

When your wood cutting boards are looking really rough, you can restore them by gently sanding the surface and wiping it clean before coating it with wood butter.
